Rigveda Mandala 2 Sukta 22

मन्त्र 1

यः जातः एव प्रथमो मनस्वान् देवो देवान् क्रतुना पर्यभूषत् । यस्य शुष्माद् रोदसी अभ्यसेतां नृम्णस्य मह्ना रोदसी अभ्यसेताम् ॥

yaḥ jātaḥ eva prathamo manasvān devo devān kratunā paryabhūṣat । yasya śuṣmād rodasī abhyasetāṁ nṛmṇasya mahnā rodasī abhyasetām ॥

अनुवाद: Who, born first, endowed with mind, the shining one, surpassed the gods by his power; whose vigor the two worlds trembled at, the two worlds trembled at the greatness of his might.

Indra is described as the supreme primeval deity who by his inherent intelligence and immense energy surpasses all cosmic forces, causing heaven and earth to tremble in awe of his might.

मन्त्र 2

तं त्वा कृष्टीः अवसे हवामहे शतं सेना अजयत् सासु युध्यतः । यं शूरमृष्वमनु द्युमन्तं सख्ये सुशेवाः अवसे हवामहे ॥

taṁ tvā kṛṣṭīḥ avase havāmahe śataṁ senā ajayat sāsu yudhyataḥ । yaṁ śūramṛṣvamanu dyumantaṁ sakhye suśevāḥ avase havāmahe ॥

अनुवाद: Thee, O glorious one, do the peoples invoke for help; he won a hundred battles where armies fought. The hero, majestic and brilliant, him do we invoke for friendship and grace.

The rishi calls upon Indra, whom mankind seeks in times of distress. Indra is the victorious leader of battles, offering enduring friendship and protection to his devotees.
