Rigveda Mandala 2 Sukta 20

मन्त्र 1

यः जातः एव प्रथमो मनस्वान् देवो देवान् क्रतुना पर्यभूषत् । यस्य शुष्कात् रोदसी अभ्यसेताम् नृम्णस्य मह्ना सहसः च कृष्णोः ॥

yaḥ jāta eva prathamo manasvān devo devān kratunā paryabhūṣat । yasya śuṣkāt rodasī abhyasetām nṛmṇasya mahnā sahasaḥ ca kṛṣṇoḥ ॥

अनुवाद: He who, being born first, thoughtful, the divine one, surpassed the gods by his will; at whose might the two worlds trembled from the greatness of his power and heroic strength.

Indra is extolled as the supreme primordial deity whose divine consciousness and power outshine all other forces from the very beginning of creation.

मन्त्र 2

तं त्वा कृष्टीः अवसे हवामहे शचीवन्तमवमं कार्त्कृण्यम् । अस्माकं इन्द्र वृषभ स्ववान् भूयाः वाजस्य गोमतः च दाता ॥

taṃ tvā kṛṣṭīḥ avase havāmahe śacīvantamavamaṃ kārtkṛṇyam । asmākaṃ indra vṛṣabha svavān bhūyāḥ vājasya gomataḥ ca dātā ॥

अनुवाद: Thee, O mighty one, do the peoples call upon for help, the master of power, prompt in action. Be thou, O Indra, the bull, the self-ruler, the giver of wealth and of cattle to us.

The hymn invokes Indra as the master of spiritual power who abundantly bestows all forms of prosperity and illumination upon his worshippers.
