अग्ने व्रतपते व्रतमुपैष्यामि तच्छकेयं तन्मे राध्यताम्।
agne vratapate vratamupaiṣyāmi tacchakeyaṃ tanme rādhyatām.
Verses 1, 2
अग्ने व्रतपते व्रतमुपैष्यामि तच्छकेयं तन्मे राध्यताम्।
agne vratapate vratamupaiṣyāmi tacchakeyaṃ tanme rādhyatām.
इदमहमृतात्सत्यमुपैमि।
idamahamṛtātsatyamupaimi.
These verses embody the profound psychological and spiritual preparation required before engaging in any sacred endeavor. The seeker consciously surrenders lower impulses, appealing directly to Agni, the divine will within, to uphold their sacred vows. By transitioning from mere ritualistic observance to an inner dedication to truth, the practitioner aligns their individual consciousness with cosmic order (Ṛta).
Verse 1: O Agni, Lord of vows, I enter upon the sacred task with your strength.
Verse 2: From untruth, I now move toward truth.
Sāyaṇa interprets these mantras as preparatory rites for the Darśa-Pūrṇamāsa sacrifices, whereas Sri Aurobindo sees them as psychological keys for conquering the lower nature and ascending into divine consciousness.
