Preparation of the Sacrificial Waters and Altar

मन्त्र 1

इषे त्वा ऊर्जे त्वा वायवः स्थ देवहित्ता देवो वः सविता प्रार्पयतु श्रेष्ठतमाय कर्मणे

iṣe tvā ūrje tvā vāyavaḥ stha devahitto devo vaḥ savitā prārpayatu śreṣṭhatamāya karmaṇe

अनुवाद: For food (sap) I take you, for strength I take you. You are the vital winds, placed by the gods. May God Savitar impel you to the most excellent work.

The priest touches the sacrificial twigs or vessel, recognizing them as divine instruments imbued with life-force and inspired by the divine stimulator, Savitar, for highest sacred duty.

मन्त्र 2

अग्नये त्वा जुष्टं गृह्णामि देवस्य त्वा सवितुः प्रसवेऽश्विनोर्बाहुभ्यां पूष्णो हस्ताभ्याम्

agnaye tvā juṣṭaṃ gṛhṇāmi devasya tvā savituḥ prasave'śvinorbāhubhyāṃ pūṣṇo hastābhyām

अनुवाद: For Agni I take you, acceptable to him. By the impulse of god Savitar, with the arms of the Ashvins, with the hands of Pūṣan.

The ritualist lifts the sacrificial offering or implement with divine sanction, invoking the cosmic physicians (Ashvins) and the nourisher (Pūṣan) to aid in the sacred act.
