इयन्ते अग्ने समिधः प्रयोजोऽन्वग्निमाहिषो जातः पृथिव्याम् ।
iyante agne samidhaḥ prayojo'nvagnimāhiṣo jātaḥ pṛthivyām ।
Verses 1, 2
इयन्ते अग्ने समिधः प्रयोजोऽन्वग्निमाहिषो जातः पृथिव्याम् ।
iyante agne samidhaḥ prayojo'nvagnimāhiṣo jātaḥ pṛthivyām ।
स जुषस्व हविषा घृतेन नः सुप्रतीको विभावसुः ।
sa juṣasva haviṣā ghṛtena naḥ supratīko vibhāvasuḥ ।
These mantras mark the solemn commencement of the ritual offering, where the outer fire symbolizes the inner flame of awareness. By offering fuel and clarified butter, the aspirant invokes Agni to awaken perception and clear away spiritual darkness.
Verse 1: This is your kindling fuel, O Agni, born upon the earth.
Verse 2: May the radiant one accept our ghee offering.
Sāyaṇa interprets these verses strictly within the paradigm of animal and ghee sacrifices, whereas Sri Aurobindo views Agni as the divine Will operating in the human psyche.
