Yajurveda · Adhyāya 2 — Agnyādhāna & Sacrificial Utensils

Agni's Protective Installation and Divine Sustenance

मन्त्र 1

अग्निं दूतं पुरो दधामि यज्ञस्य देवमृत्विजम् । तं होतारं रत्नधातमम् ॥

agniṃ dūtaṃ puro dadhāmi yajñasya devamṛtvijam । taṃ hotāraṃ ratnadhātamam ॥

अनुवाद: I place Agni as the messenger, the divine priest of the sacrifice. Him I place as the hotṛ priest, bestower of ultimate treasures.

The sacrificer establishes Agni as the central mediator between humans and the divine realms, recognizing him as the supreme priest and giver of spiritual and material wealth.

मन्त्र 2

अग्ने यं यज्ञमध्वरं विश्वतः परिभूरसि । स इद्देवेषु गच्छति ॥

agne yaṃ yajñamadhvaraṃ viśvataḥ paribhūrasi । sa iddeveṣu gacchati ॥

अनुवाद: O Agni, whatever non-violent sacrifice you encompass on all sides, that indeed reaches the gods.

Agni's protective and encompassing nature ensures that the sincere rituals and offerings performed by humans successfully ascend to the divine plane.
