Yajurveda · Adhyāya 1

Agni-Soma and the Preparation of the Sacrifice

मन्त्र 1

इषे त्वा ऊर्जे त्वा वायव स्थ देवो वः सविता प्रार्पयतु श्रेष्ठतमाय कर्मणे

iṣe tvā ūrje tvā vāyava stha devo vaḥ savitā prārpayatu śreṣṭhatamāya karmaṇe

अनुवाद: For food I touch thee, for energy I touch thee; ye are winds, may God Savitri impel you to the most excellent work.

The priest addresses the twigs or the offering materials, invoking divine energy and the inspiration of Savitri to perform supreme righteous actions.

मन्त्र 2

अग्नये त्वा जुष्टं गृह्णाम्येष ते योनिरग्नये त्वा जुष्टतमम्

agnaye tvā juṣṭaṃ gṛhṇāmyeṣa te yoniragnaye tvā juṣṭatamam

अनुवाद: For Agni I take thee, acceptable to him; this is thy home, most acceptable to Agni.

This verse is chanted when the priest picks up or consecrates an oblation, dedicating it entirely to the sacred fire of consciousness.
