Soma and Pusan Sukta

मन्त्र 1

सोमापूषणा जनനया प्रजां जनനया रयिं विश्वमिन्ये धताम् । दधाने अस्मिन् तन्वो जुषाणा विश्वानि भद्रा दधतं रये नः ॥

somāpūṣaṇā janayā prajāṃ janayā rayiṃ viśvaminye dhatām | dadhāne asmin tanvo juṣāṇā viśvāni bhadrā dadhataṃ raye naḥ ||

अनुवाद: O Soma and Pusan, generate progeny, generate wealth, bestow all things that are desirable. Embracing this body and delighting in it, bestow all auspicious things upon us for our wealth.

The rishi prays to Soma, the lord of divine delight, and Pusan, the nourisher and guide, to bless the seeker with spiritual offspring (noble thoughts) and inner wealth.

मन्त्र 2

युवा सुवातामन्विदमर्यमा विश्वे देवासो नृतमा अहिबुध्न्यः । अजा एकपात्पृथिवी द्यौरग्निः शृण्वन्तु धियं जुजुषन्तु वाजाः ॥

yuvā suvātāmanvidamaryamā viśve devāso nṛtamā ahibudhnyaḥ | ajā ekapātpṛthivī dyauragniḥ śṛṇvantu dhiyaṃ jujuṣantu vājāḥ ||

अनुवाद: May Aryaman and others accomplish this well. May all the gods, the best leaders, Ahibudhnya, Aja Ekapat, Earth, Heaven, and Agni hear our prayer and accept our offerings.

A universal invocation of cosmic deities to witness and empower the prayer of the seeker.

मन्त्र 3

भद्रं पश्येम भद्रं मा कृणुध्वं भद्रं नो अद्य शृणुयाम देवाः । भद्रेण नः सुमना दधानेन प्रजावतो रयिमस्मासु धत्तम् ॥

bhadraṃ paśyema bhadraṃ mā kṛṇudhvaṃ bhadraṃ no adya śṛṇuyāma devāḥ | bhadreṇa naḥ sumanā dadhānena prajāvato rayimasmāsu dhattam ||

अनुवाद: May we see what is auspicious, may we act auspiciously, may we hear what is auspicious today, O gods. With auspicious and benevolent minds, bestow upon us wealth rich in progeny.
