📖 Immersive narrative, word breakdowns, and spiritual context

In these verses, Ṛṣi Gṛtsamada establishes Agni not merely as the physical flame on the altar, but as the supreme divine consciousness embedded within the human intellect (mano-hitaḥ). Agni represents the active, ascending will of the soul. He is the Hotṛ, the priest who invokes the higher deities, and the Kavi, the omniscient seer who perceives the hidden truths of existence. Through his expansive power (kratu), Agni pervades both heaven and earth, bridging the material and spiritual dimensions. This narrative highlights how the inner flame of awareness is the ultimate witness of all evolutionary births and experiences.

💭 Flowing Translation

Verse 1: Thou, O Agni, art the primordial divine will placed within the mind, acting as our priest and seer.

📝 Scholar's Reading Note

Sāyaṇa interprets these terms through a ritualistic lens as the sacrificial fire and priesthood, whereas Sri Aurobindo sees Agni as the psychological Will and luminous aspiration guiding human evolution.
