The spiritual journey in the Vedic tradition begins with a conscious commitment known as a vrata. In these verses, the seeker approaches Agni, the divine will and illuminator, to declare their resolve to abandon falsehood (anṛta) and embrace truth (satya). This transition is not merely ethical but ontological, aligning human consciousness with the cosmic rhythm.
Verse 1: O Agni, Lord of vows, I enter the sacred obligation to pursue truth.
Verse 2: May the divine flame accept our offering and bestow ancient grace.
Sāyaṇa interprets vrata as ritual observances, while Sri Aurobindo and esoteric commentators view it as the inner psychological dedication to divine law (Ṛta) and spiritual transformation.
