Verses 1, 2
इषे त्वा ऊर्जे त्वा वायवः स्थ देवो वः सविता प्रार्पयतु श्रेष्ठतमाय कर्मणै.
iṣe tvā ūrje tvā vāyavaḥ stha devo vaḥ savitā prārpayatu śreṣṭhatamāya karmaṇai.
अग्नये त्वा जुष्टं गृह्णाम्येष ते योनिरग्नये त्वा जुष्टतमम्.
agnaye tvā juṣṭaṃ gṛhṇāmyeṣa te yoniragnaye tvā juṣṭatamam.
The opening mantras of this section establish the fundamental psychological and spiritual orientation of the seeker. By acknowledging the vital breaths (vāyavaḥ) and invoking Savitṛ, the divine impeller, the practitioner aligns their individual will with the cosmic impetus for noble and excellent action. Every ritual instrument is treated not as inert matter, but as a conscious participant in the divine yajña. Moving deeper into the consecration, the offering is placed in its ritual womb with the dedication to Agni. This act symbolizes the return of all material creation back to its divine source through conscious sacrifice, burning away gross impurities and releasing the refined essence of devotion.
Verse 1: Invoking nourishment, strength, and divine impetus for sacred action.
Verse 2: Dedication of the oblation to the sacred fire of consciousness.
Literally, these verses pertain to the physical handling of sacrificial grass and offerings. Symbolically, according to Sāyaṇa and esoteric traditions, 'iṣā' and 'ūrjā' represent the spiritual nourishment and infinite strength required by the inner soul on the path of self-realization.
