This act captures the core sentiment of Vedic devotion wherein the seeker establishes a profound interactive communion with Agni. Agni is not merely physical flame, but the divine messenger and the conscious power of aspiration within human beings. By offering the fuel of dedicated action and sweet praise, the devotee invites celestial grace. In the second verse, Agni is addressed as Pāvaka (the purifier). The weaving of the thread (tantu) symbolizes the continuity of cosmic order, righteous lineage, and spiritual vitality across generations. The prayer seeks not just material prosperity, but a radiant, illumined existence.
Verse 1: O Agni, accept our offerings and surround us with blissful protection.
Verse 2: O purifier, shine brightly for us and sustain our vibrant life and glory.
Sāyaṇa interprets these verses strictly through the ritualistic lens of the Soma sacrifice and oblations to fire. Sri Aurobindo, however, views Agni as the psychological Will and Divine Force that leads the seeker upward from darkness to light.
